31. Oktober 2012

Cherrypicking: Weddingweiser finds the best Cafés in Wedding (with addresses and opening hours)

Zierleiste-Cafés

Around Osramhöfe/Leopoldplatz:

Schraders, Malplaquetstr. 16b/Liebenwalder Str. , phone 03045 08 26 63, open daily from 10 a.m.

Hospitality-pioneer in Wedding for over 10 years! A typical breakfast café in the morning (sundays with large brunch buffet), a restaurant in the afternoon and a bar at night. It might not be a secret tip anymore, but you cannot imagine Wedding without it. Special tip: come here in summer to enjoy the sun in the outside area!

TassenKuchen, Malplaquetstr. 33, Wed- Fri 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sat/Sun 10.30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“We are both designers, and everything is thought through”, say Tonia and Paul, owners of TassenKuchen. This is not just any café: the design is remarkable, and so are the organic cakes with American migration background. Special tip: Pancakes every weekend, all-you-can-eat pancake brunch on Sundays!

Spiritus Mundi, Nazarethkirchstraße 40, Tel.: 03060962777, Mon to Thu 12–8 p.m., Fri till 10 p.m.

“The range of wines is big, many of them under 10€, some above. Every day, three red and two white wines can be tested. The selection of special cheeses, sausage, pasta, fair trade coffee, organic bread and other delicacies is not big, but good. From midday on you can get quiches and Basque Pintxos. Furthermore, Spiritus Mundi sells trendy decoration, too.“ (A.Rommel)

Coffee Star, Müllerstr. 146, Mon to Fri 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Wedding’s best known coffee roasting facility with café is located in Rathaus Wedding. Fair prices, Coffee-Shop-style – the perfect place to escape from bustling Müllerstraße for a cup of coffee.

Auf der Suche nach dem verlorenen Glück, Nazarethkirchstr. 43, Tel. 530 80 113, Mon to Fri 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sat 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., Sun 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

‘Searching for lost luck’, an unusual name for a café, but this little oasis convinces with a special atmosphere. Home-made cake and snacks – maybe you want to enjoy them outside in summer? A favourite place for many ‘Weddingers’.

Sprengelkiez:

“Der Bioladen”, Tegeler Str. 30, Mon – Fri 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This nice, kids-friendly shop with café is not only for fans of organic goods – you can also just get great coffee here! For the shop owner, regional products are important: often she even knows the producer personally.

Hubert, Tegeler Str. 29a, Tel. 0176 78042781, Tue – Sun, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Nice new café in the Sprengelkiez. Small menu, choice of cakes, great choice of coffees and teas.

Café Auszeit, Kiautschoustrasse 12, daily from 10 a.m.

“One reason why I often come here for coffee or tea and cake is the great location by the canal: In summer, you’ll find seats and garden swings set up outside, surrounded by a lot of greenery. Inside, the atmosphere is simple and chic. My favourite spot: the bench by the window. Service is quick and friendly, even when it is packed.” (A.Rommel)

Lindengarten, Nordufer 15, Tel. 81404845, daily 9 a.m. to 1 a.m.

“Down-to-earth German cuisine, paired with vegetarian creations”, in a garden restaurant with rich tradition and a beautiful ballroom.

Nördliche Müllerstraße:

Moccachino, Müllerstr. 4445 at Urnenfriedhof (Cemetery) Seestr., Mon to Sun 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Café at the edge of the cemetery, offering Turkish dishes, tarte flambée, breakfast, salad and more. The ‘Moccachino’ is a stylish café with a bit of an exotic touch to it and always worth a visit.

Suppen-Treff, Müllerstr. 49b, Mon to Fri 7.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“All of our soups are home-made”, explains Gül Pilic, who prepares everything fresh in front of the customer. The name ‘Suppen-Treff’ conceals the fact that you can also get home-made cake, good coffee and freshly made milk rice and custard.

Mercatino, Müllerstr. 118, Tel. 452 80 49, Mon – Wed, Fri 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Thu 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sat 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This speciality shop with catering service mainly focuses on quality – or should we say ‘quality of life’? Here, you’ll find good coffee, Mediterranean specialities and Italian wine.

Gilmore’s, Müllerstr. 70 b, Mon/Tue, Thu/Fri 9 a.m. to 18 p.m., Sat/Sun 2 p.m. To 6 p.m.

A beacon in Wedding’s far north: Cosy, nice atmosphere and an engaged owner, Sandra Fabian. Aside from coffee and tea, there’s a wide range of home-made cakes.
