Fat Louis’ Cakes – Wedding’s unofficial living room

In the begin­ning, the­re was cake. More and more peo­p­le flo­cked to the litt­le bar in Gott­sched­stra­ße to com­bi­ne beer and cheeseca­ke as if cof­fee had never been inven­ted. Nowa­days, Fat Lou­is does­n’t need cake to fill its com­for­ta­ble cou­ch­es. The bar is long sin­ce estab­lished as one of the favou­ri­te loca­ti­ons in the “Kiez” and now ser­ves Cock­tails and Eschen­bräu ins­tead of cho­co­la­te brownies.

But tho­se are­n’t just any cock­tails: The home­ma­de “Jat­zer”, named after the sis­ter-bar Jatz across the street, is the star of Fat Lou­is’ drinks sel­ec­tion and is by now well-known bey­ond Ber­lin bor­ders. It is the per­fect com­bi­na­ti­on of sweet, sour and fresh mint – with a fine after­tas­te of “Hoo­r­ay it’s Fri­day”. There’s even rumours of it actual­ly being healthy.

On Sun­days there’s Tat­ort, on Satur­days there’s high life. Regu­lars and ever more new cus­to­mers lounge on the sofas that are pre­de­ter­mi­ned for long talks – and long nights. In the back smo­king is per­mit­ted and in the enti­re place, play­ing is encou­ra­ged. A small ran­ge of games is pro­vi­ded. The atmo­sphe­re could­n’t be more homey. Who ever sits down here, isn’t going to get up again any time soon.

With the crea­ti­ve play­list, well adapt­ed to the respec­ti­ve time of day, and the quir­ky but com­fy fur­ni­tu­re, Fat Lou­is’ Cakes is the per­fect second living room – even wit­hout cake.
