In the beginning, there was cake. More and more people flocked to the little bar in Gottschedstraße to combine beer and cheesecake as if coffee had never been invented. Nowadays, Fat Louis doesn’t need cake to fill its comfortable couches. The bar is long since established as one of the favourite locations in the “Kiez” and now serves Cocktails and Eschenbräu instead of chocolate brownies.
But those aren’t just any cocktails: The homemade “Jatzer”, named after the sister-bar Jatz across the street, is the star of Fat Louis’ drinks selection and is by now well-known beyond Berlin borders. It is the perfect combination of sweet, sour and fresh mint – with a fine aftertaste of “Hooray it’s Friday”. There’s even rumours of it actually being healthy.
On Sundays there’s Tatort, on Saturdays there’s high life. Regulars and ever more new customers lounge on the sofas that are predetermined for long talks – and long nights. In the back smoking is permitted and in the entire place, playing is encouraged. A small range of games is provided. The atmosphere couldn’t be more homey. Who ever sits down here, isn’t going to get up again any time soon.
With the creative playlist, well adapted to the respective time of day, and the quirky but comfy furniture, Fat Louis’ Cakes is the perfect second living room – even without cake.
